Quote of the Day

12 Jul

“If you reject the food, ignore the customs, fear the religion and avoid the people, you might better stay at home.”

~James Michener

The food, customs, religion and people are what make traveling so interesting!  And it’s even better if you are uncomfortable because that means that you are learning.  Have you ever noticed how sharp your senses become when you are out of your comfort zone?  We become very aware of our surroundings when we are unsure of them and this is when we notice all the minutia that would otherwise go overlooked.

So I challenge you to get uncomfortable!!  Go somewhere you wouldn’t normally go, even in your own city and just see what you notice.  I bet you’ll be surprised!

I love the food, not sure about eating with hands….everyones hands in the same dish??……OK so I like clean hands and I have seen first hand (ha get it?) what bugs in food gets you. Can you eat Indian food with chop six?? Ya, mix it up a bit and keep the hands clean.

Ethiopian food is eaten with Injera – a spongy flattened bread. It’s the only part that touches your hands so it’s used as a utensil – no germs spread. Though I think the spice from the curries might kill at least some of them. Nice post Emmy!

Good point about the spices! Thanks for the comment!

I do love a good ethnic dish
