“To my mind, the greatest reward and luxury of travel is to be able to experience everyday things as if for the first time, to be in a position in which almost nothing is so familiar it is taken for granted.”
This quote reflects on a previous statement that I made about noticing things and experiencing them when you are in a foreign situation. This is so true, we take things for granted that are familiar. I’m sure most of you could do the drive to work blindfolded because you’ve done it so many times. When we are traveling the most mundane things are new and exciting. You could stand on a street corner in Finland and watch everyone else in their daily routines – their “everyday things” – and it would be fascinating. I’m sure you wouldn’t take that experience for granted.
